Another question which came up was in regards to licensing. How would one who has different license keys for their office installation use the MDT tool. Provided they were all the same version of Office (2007) just bought at different times, the easiest thing to do would be to install Office 2007 without specifying a product key, then on first run of a Office 2007 application, it will ask for the key. At that time, specify the key for that particular computer and you are off to the races.
OWSUG October Meeting
I was up at the October meeting of the Ottawa Windows Server User Group. Rick Claus did the presentation on Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 R2. He covered how small businesses could use it to provide access to the network resources for remote users and branch offices using the different tools in SBS. It was the warm up show for the I/O Tour in Ottawa today. I didn’t go to that, but it sounded like it would be good.
Some other things to note
- Virtual PC 2007 goes into Beta on October 11th. Rick says he is already using it and it works well on top of Windows Vista.
- Windows RC2 is coming up soon, I’ll place a link to the site.
- Office Beta 2 Technical refresh is out. (Only available through Technet Plus or MSDN). My friend Dave with the schoolboard tells me it works a lot better that Beta 2, basically better UI and more stable.
