Multicast NLB with UAG SP1 and DirectAccess

posted on November 9, 2011

Microsoft Forefront UAG

I am working on an implementation of Unified Access Gateay (UAG) SP1 for our DirectAccess implementation here at the board.

The TechNet articles in the deployment guide specify that you must use NLB in Unicast Mode for the deployment.  The guide is located at http://bit.ly/tirUga

If you are using VMWare to host your UAG Array, you know that Unicast NLB has its issues. After doing some searching I discovered this Blog, http://bit.ly/sX7sgX which says that  you can use multicast NLB for UAG Sp1 and that the documentation is incorrect.

Step by Step Guides for Windows 2008

posted on April 26, 2011

I was looking on the internet for some help setting up my certificate services that I need for a presentation I am doing in Ottawa later in the week. Certificate services is something I haven’t really touched in my career at all up until now. My presentation is on DirectAccess using Unified Access Gateway. You need certificates to encrypt IPSEC data using DirectAccess.

So off I went looking for something to help me along and build the solution in the lab. While searching, I found what I was looking for and more.

Check out this Step-by-Step guide site on TechNet. It covers off a lot of different scenarios and is pretty damn helpful if I do say so myself.

Blue Screen of Death Appears at TechDays Ottawa

posted on December 10, 2009

The dreaded blue screen of death has appeared at TechDays here in Ottawa.

Blue Screen of Death in WINRE TechDays Demo

This was in the Windows Recovery session and it was part of the demo. They made it appear by feeding “Green Eggs and Ham” to SAM. When the SAM is replaced by something that is not supposed to be there, this is what happens. WINRE was used to recover the SAM and make the computer boot again.

This was just one of the many great sessions on Day 1 of TechDays in Ottawa. I presented the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010 (MDT 2010) on Day 1; Day 2 is running today and I will be presenting Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 (WSUS). There are many great sessions going on today; Exchange 2010, DirectAccess and Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.5 (ACT) are some of today’s great sessions, so be sure to check them out.
