My Microsoft Office 2007 Installation

posted on July 3, 2007

Started doing installs of Microsoft Office 2007 via sneaker net. Because of the bug pointed out by Nizar http://todds.typepad.com/posts/2007/03/microsoft_offic.html#comment-73986258 I decided to go machine by machine, which isn’t that big of a deal for me, I have about 20 or so machines to do total. I edited the config.xml file as per Jeff’s instructions, and set up basically as a self run install. I put all the files on a 4gb memory stick and also on a network share for those in the HQ office and off I went. It took about 10 minutes per install off the network and it uninstalled the old version as well. I have to do the offsite locations so I am sure that will be a little more interesting.

EnergizeIT – wrap up

posted on June 22, 2007

I am little slow on the draw to post this. I had something written up on the train but I blew it away when I reloaded the laptop with Vista. (oops.) I am sitting here on the ferry dock to Amherst Island on a beautiful afternoon waiting for the ferry to return, re-writing this. One of the libraries I support is in Stella which is on Amherst Island, and the ferry is the only way over there.

The next part of the day for me was the second Hands on Lab which was on Microsoft Forefront. Mitch Garvis was running this lab. When that was done, I headed back to the main hall and caught the last little bit about the next version of SQL. Then I collected my SWAG, spent a few minutes shooting the bull with Garth Jones, Kim Frank and a few others from the various user groups before heading out. David and I hit the Lonestar on Front street for a quick bite and some pops and then it was back on the train and back to Kingston for me.

Decent event which brings together the various IT types for a one day celebration of geek.

EnergizeIT

posted on June 16, 2007

I haven’t blogged in a bit. I’ve been busy selling my house and moving. Now that I am moved and things are sort of back to normal, I hope to spend some more time back on the blog.

As the title of the post says, I am attending EnergizeIT. I got my hind end out of bed at 6:20, more or less cursing since the train left Kingston at 6:50 but I made the train with 5 minutes to spare. The train arrived in Toronto at 9:30. I got registered, sat down and then found David who also drove up from Brockville. The keynotes were okay, the topics were Secure Computing and Virtualization. Next was lunch, which was important since for me, it was the first meal of the day. Next up was a hands on lab on System Center, Garth Jones was procuring it.

While in there, I was interviewed by someone with Microsoft marketing about why I would take a 3 hour train ride to come to this event. Two reasons for me, the hands on labs and the networking opportunity. Even though it wasn’t live or not quite the scale of what Heather has been blogging about although it did have the boom microphone and such, I was still somewhat nervous as I usually prefer to be prepared for something like this, as today’s thing was off the cuff.  Anyway, I am just catching a session in the main area on Exchange unified messaging since I finished the HOL early, but this is finishing up and it’s about time to go to the next hands on lab.

More to come.
