Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2010 SP1

posted on August 24, 2011

Just noticed today that Microsoft has release update rollup 5 for Exchange 2010 SP1.

It contains the Exchange 2010 change called out in  KB Article 2543879: PDF attachment from a Mac Mail client is not displayed when you use Outlook 2010 to open the email message in an Exchange Server 2007 SP3 environment.

I have seen this problem more and more lately. We can’t see the PDF file as an attachment at all in Outlook but can see the attachment fine on our mobile devices.

Go to http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2011/08/23/released-update-rollup-5-for-exchange-2010-sp1.aspx to get more information.

Windows Server 8–Hyper-V

posted on July 19, 2011

At the Worldwide Partner conference in Los Angeles earlier this month, Microsoft showed off some new Hyper-V features in what is codenamed Windows Server 8.

The Virtualization Team Blog posted a link to the video and some information on their blog. The mark you want to look at is around the 37 minute mark. There is slide that starts it off marked Sneak Peak, Windows Server “8”

We will be seeing more information about Windows 8 and hopefully Windows Server 8 in the next few weeks when the Windows Build conference happens in Anaheim, CA.

Me being the deployment guy, I am hoping they show off any new ways to deploy Windows 8.

posted on June 22, 2011

Are you running Windows XP? Are you feeling the pressure of creating a deployment plan? Have no fear! Leveraging learning’s from one of early adopters this session will give you the skills you need to proceed with your own deployment. The session will focus on free Windows 7 deployment planning and deployment tools that customize operating system packages and automate deployment planning and network deployments seamlessly. We will dive right into:

  • How to use the Microsoft Assessment and Planning (MAP) tool to identify your current hardware and application inventory.
  • How to use the Windows Automated Install Kit (WAIK) to build a customized image for your organization.
  • How to use the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) to build, deploy and maintain Windows installation images.
  • How to migrate the end users profile from their current installation to the Windows 7 installation using the User State Migration Toolkit (USMT).
  • How to integrate MDT and Windows Deployment Services (WDS) to perform Lite Touch installations of Windows 7.

Finally we will look at how we can leverage the various tools to solve any application compatibility issues you might encounter. We will look at how you can overcome common obstacles using the Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT), or larger obstacles using Windows XP Mode and Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V) and even how you can leverage Application Virtualization (App-V) to streamline application deployment and ensure all your applications work!
