Last DC power in NYC shutdown

posted on November 19, 2007

Didn’t know anyone even was using this anymore as a way to power their homes as almost all are on AC power.

Interesting story behind the use of DC in New York.

Windows XP Command Line Reference

posted on November 5, 2007

Islam Gomaa, my friend from the OWSUG in Ottawa, messaged me last night asking if I knew what the command was to fix the file system in Windows XP. I made a couple of guesses but the command he was looking for was SFC. He found a wonderful reference page on Microsoft’s site, so I told him I would pass it along.

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/ntcmds.mspx?mfr=true

It seems to cover most of the commands and what the arguments are for the commands.

Enjoy.

If you are getting a hell of a deal, you should be wondering why.

This was posted to the Kingston Whig Standard page over the weekend. I used to work for the City of Kingston prior to coming to the County of Lennox and Addington so I know what is happening here. I won’t get into details other than buy the right gear for the job.

Hardware blamed for phone troubles

Posted 2 days ago

Telephone service to some city departments was disrupted yesterday for roughly an hour and a half. The problem affected the administrative offices of Kingston Fire and Rescue, Rideaucrest Home and Utilities Kingston.

The service was restored at about 10:30 a.m., said Royce Connors, the city manager in charge of voice services. Connors said it’s believed several pieces of hardware purchased recently are the root of the problem.

The problem affected the voicemail system, which is run by computer software. The system usually answers incoming calls. When it stopped working, calls had to be rerouted temporarily to the city’s utility dispatch centre. The glitch did not affect emergency calls.
