Installing Games in Windows Vista Business using Scripts

posted on September 16, 2008

I needed a way to install Windows Vista games by script so I could further automate my MDT installations. Windows Vista business does not install games automatically, I think Home versions do though. Really you wouldn’t want them in the office, but these computers are for library patrons and some like to play solitaire. I did some searching the internet and found somewhere along the line this command line – pkgmgr.exe /iu:InboxGames /quiet

To make this work in MDT, you go to applications, create a new one, tell it that this is an application without source files, fill in the information on name, publisher, version, etc, put in the command line then click finish.

OWSUG User Group Meeting, September 18th 2008

Topic: Cross Platform Monitoring with OpsMgr 2007

Description:

Monitoring with Operations Manger 2007 is not limited to Windows Computers.  The capabilities of Operations Manager extend far beyond.  For the first time as an agent based solution native to Operations Manager, Unix systems can be monitored.  Local resources like CPU, memory, disk can be monitored. Like the Windows Event Logs the syslog can also be monitored.  Integration with Operations Manager even includes tasks which are performed locally on the agent managed systems.  There is even integration with the reporting subsystem.  See what is new with Cross platform monitoring in System Center Operations Manager!

Tech Days

posted on September 13, 2008

It looks like the cat is out of the bag. John and Rick each had a post on the Canadian IT Pro Blog letting Canadian IT Pro’s and Developers know that they are planning an Tech ED style event to tour 7 Canadian cities called Tech Days. In Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver, the event will be two days and in Ottawa, Halifax and Winnipeg the event will be one day.

The event dates are posted on the Tech Days website located at www.TechDays.ca.

I can tell you I am looking forward to the event as I think there will be some great information being delivered and I know that the team has worked hard on this event. While there isn’t a lot of official information released yet, you can check out Miguel’s or Darcy’s blog for more information. From the looks of it, there will be a cost to attend the event but the information you will receive and get to take with you will be worth the price of admission.

As I see more information, I will post more to my blog.
