Fresh from his presentations at Microsoft’s PDC Conference (LA) and SQLTeach (Montreal) Klaus will be in Ottawa for one night only to share his knowledge with our local community. Session: SQL Server 2008 Developer Enhancements, Klaus Aschenbrenner

SQL Server 2008 provides a lot of new features for .NET and T-SQL developers. In this Session Klaus will show you how to use the following new technologies inside SQL Server 2008:

• Make use of the new T-SQL enhancements like Table Valued Parameters in T-SQL and .NET code

• New T-SQL data types like Hierarchy ID, DATE, TIME, DATETIME2, DATEOFFSET

• Usage of the new FILESTREAM data type for efficient storage of BLOBs inside the database

• Spatial data to do geographic queries and visualization inside Virtual Earth

Klaus Aschenbrenner works as a Software Architect for ANECON (Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Data Management Solutions/ISV) in Vienna – Austria. Klaus works with the .NET Framework and SQL Server. In the years 2004 Klaus was awarded with the MVP designation by Microsoft for his tremendous support of the .NET Community.

Currently he travels around the world and teaches customers the core concepts of SQL Server 2008. He speaks at industry conferences about SQL Server 2008 and how a service oriented data architecture can be achieved with the tools available with SQL Server 2008. He is the author of the critically acclaimed Apress book ‘Pro SQL Server 2005 Service Broker’. Klaus also serves as the SQL PASS lead for Austria.

The Ottawa.net group is putting on an event this thursday about Team
System Process Customization. You can have a look below for information
on the event and how to register.


Description:
This presentation will focus on the creation of new process templates
and the various customization options that are made available to you as
a developer. We’ll look at the new work item types, processes, and
reports. This is more than just process customization; it’s TFS
tailoring and extension at its best!

Speaker: Etienne
Tremblay is a senior application architect for EDS Canada with 14 years
of experience in enterprise application development. His primary focus
has been the manufacturing and mining industries, where he has
developed systems to monitor quality in car manufacturing, claim
management systems, mine monitoring systems and route management
systems using n-tier application model in C/C++, VB6/DCOM and in the
last 6 years exclusively with the Microsoft .NET technologies both with
VB.NET and C#. In late 2005 he was awarded MVP status for his work with
Microsoft’s Visual Studio Team System 2005 product for which he has
done talks, training, and large scale deployment in EDS.

BizTalk User Group (BTUG)

A new international BizTalk User Group has been formed to support the Microsoft BizTalk Server user community. The goal of the BTUG website is to provide a central on-line resource for user group members for all things BizTalk related.
