Installing Microsoft Forefront Client without Forefront Management Server

Posted on March 13, 2009, by Todd, under Security.

As part of our Microsoft School Agreement, we are licensed for Microsoft Forefront Client on the machines covered under the agreement which is all the computers. I have been using McAfee Total Protection. I like this as it doesn’t matter if the computer is connected to the domain or not, updates happen automatically. It works well I have no complaints, but no use paying for a product twice.

Did You Know? – Password Hint in Vista

Posted on September 16, 2007, by Todd, under Security, Windows Vista.

Did you know you can put your password in as the password hint. Was working with David on some material for Monday’s presentation at OWSUG Study group and he noticed that as your password hint you can put in the password. Handy if you forget your password, not so great if you don’t want someone else getting it. This only works in a non-domain environment.

I am no longer an Administrator on my local Desktop PC

Posted on October 24, 2006, by Todd, under Security, Windows Vista.

grouptherapy 01 thumb%5B6%5D I am no longer an Administrator on my local Desktop PCI joined the club and installed Windows Vista RC1 and now I am using UAC
and no longer need to be logged in as an Administrator all day.  The UAC prompt doesn’t come up all that often now that everything is installed. I tried in the past running as a non-admin on  the desktop, but the experience was just too painful to do that for any length of time. This is pretty good. I got chuckling to myself to as I think I am the one of only people  in the office who logs into their computer as a non-admin, everyone else has admin privileges on their local machine. Thankfully, I am not the IT support for those people.
