Goals for the New Year

Don’t you love start of the year planning? You sit down with the boss and go over the departments goals and your own professional goals. So as this is my first January with the County, I made up a list of what we achieved in 2006, what some of our major projects are going to be in 2007 and my own professional development goals. I did this as part of the IT department when I worked at the City of Kingston, so I had some experience doing this before.

soapbox thumb%5B3%5D 1 Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit An email I sent to Rick Claus of Microsoft is posted on the Microsoft Canadian IT Professionals blog. I was more than happy to write something about the shared computer toolkit. It was really easy to use and deploy on my Windows XP Pro workstations. I am looking forward to the Version 2 which goes into Beta on October 30th. I plan on testing it as soon as it hits, so check back here for more information if you are interested.

OWSUG October Meeting

Sleep_meetingI was up at the October meeting of the Ottawa Windows Server User Group. Rick Claus did the presentation on Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 R2. He covered how small businesses could use it to provide access to the network resources for remote users and branch offices using the different tools in SBS. It was the warm up show for the I/O Tour in Ottawa today. I didn’t go to that, but it sounded like it would be good.
