Posted on July 8, 2009, by Todd, under Certification.
If you are planning on writing the Microsoft Certification Exam for 70-652: Configuring Windows Server Virtualization, Microsoft Press has released a self-paced training kit. The Microsoft press books are always well written and are of good quality. I have no doubt this one maintains the status quo. Here is a link to the Micorosft Press Self-Paced Training Kit. Chapters 6 & 8 are available for free, find them here.No Comments

I Passed the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit Exam
Posted on April 3, 2009, by Todd, under Certification.
I wrote the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit exam this past Wednesday. The exam number is 70-635, TS: Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2008, Desktop Deployment and I managed to pass. I don’t use the Zero Touch (ZTI) features of MDT, no SCCM, no SMS, no MOM. I exclusively use Light Touch (LTI) with WDS and sometimes a USB boot key for my installs in my production environment, which put me at a slight disadvantage for the exam. Unfortunately, there are no training guides for this exam as of yet. There are study guides for 70-624 which cover BDD, the predecessor to MDT. So those will help a little. There were also some podcasts which covered ZTI and the preparation I did for TechDays helped me cover the areas I didn’t know as solid for this exam.

Save 40% on a your Microsoft Exam – Certification Week
Posted on March 12, 2009, by Todd, under Certification.
Microsoft Learning as part of Microsoft Skills Week is providing a code for 40% off a Microsoft exam. The discount code and fine print information can be found at http://www.certificationweek.com. Basically, you need to book your exam on or before the 13th of March and need to write the exam before May 31st. If you know you are planning on writing an exam in the upcoming months, book your times now and save. I don’t know how many time you can use the code, so there is a chance you can use it for more than one exam.No Comments
Exam 70-646 – Preparations for My Next Exam
Posted on February 6, 2009, by Todd, under Certification.
I am preparing to start studying for my next Microsoft exam. The exam I am working on will be 70-646, PRO: Windows Server 2008, Server Administrator. In my preparations, I am going to use the MCITP Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-646): Windows Server 2008 Administratorexam preparation book to study for the exam. I bought this book last fall from Amazon.ca, as with the OWSUG study groups, we always used the MS Press books and found them to be the best resource for subject material when preparing for the exam. I also find that its definitely less expensive to get my books from the online stores versus a physical brick and mortar store.

My Year End Review
Posted on December 30, 2008, by Todd, under Certification.
Garth had a post a few week back about his certification achievements this past year. Seeing this is the last week of the year, I was reflecting on what I accomplished this past year. Listing what you have accomplished in the past year along with setting goals for the future is a good way to mark your progress and then set goals to achieve going ahead.

Registration open till October 25th for testing New Virtual Lab based Exam 70-113
Posted on October 11, 2008, by Todd, under Certification.
Microsoft has extended their offer to write the Microsoft exam 70-113: TS:
Windows® Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring. This is the exam where you
don't get a score but it is for Microsoft Learning to test their deployment and for your trouble you will receive 3 three exam vouchers. I
have written this exam and some words of advice, don't arrive too early for the
exam, you can't start the exam until the time you selected. For example, I
arrived at 8:45 and started my 9:00 exam. I had to sit and twiddle my thumbs
until 9:00 while the counter counted down because the VM you run your test in
doesn't get prepped until a few minutes before the exam. So don't be like me,
arrive a little early for your test but don't start the exam until your allotted
time.

New Microsoft Learning Community Blog
Posted on September 19, 2008, by Todd, under Certification, Learning.
Yesterday Trika mentions she’s moving into a new role at Microsoft. Today I discovered the The Microsoft Learning Community and Evangelism Team blog called Born to Learn. If you participate in Microsoft certification, then I suggest you add this blog to your feeds as this is most likely where we will find information that we used to get from Trika.
